Academic Publishing Web Portal
As a Web Designer for the SKUMS Publications Office, I was responsible for designing a modern academic web portal focused on clarity, visual consistency, and ease of use. The project aimed to create a professional digital platform for presenting academic journals, announcements, and publication-related resources in a structured and accessible way.
I led the visual and UX design across key touchpoints of the portal, including journal cover designs, custom journal headers, banners, and early-stage logo concepts. A major part of my role involved shaping the overall user experience by defining page layouts and information hierarchy to ensure that academic content was easy to navigate and visually cohesive.
My Role – Visual & Graphic Designer
Collaborated closely with the SKUMS Publications Office staff to understand journal structures, content update workflows, and branding challenges
Analyzed the needs of key user groups, including researchers, students, and journal editors, to inform UX and visual decisions
Designed a modern, academically credible layout system to replace the outdated and inconsistent previous interface
Created a unified visual system covering journal covers, headers, banners, logo concepts, and reusable UI components
Developed distinct color themes for each journal, including customized palettes, header styles, and cover designs, to improve recognition and usability
Ensured visual consistency across all pages while aligning the design language with university and academic standards
Delivered high-fidelity designs, supporting both visual identity and functional UX goals
Problem
The journals lacked a cohesive visual identity and needed professional, academic-appropriate cover designs that reflected their scientific fields while maintaining consistency across publications.
Solution
I designed a unified visual system for multiple journals, creating distinct yet consistent covers and logos. Each design reflects the journal’s subject area while following a shared layout, typography, and branding structure suitable for academic publishing.
Deliverables
Journal cover designs
Journal logos
Website header design
Digital mockups (tablet, laptop, mobile)
Outcomes
The final designs established a clear and professional visual identity for the journals and improved consistency across digital and print platforms.
The designs were officially used by the journals.
